Community feedback needed on Arts + Culture Strategic Plan

Deadline for input is Aug 3

Brookhaven, GA –July 21, 2020 -- Not that many years ago, any discussion of arts and culture in Brookhaven may have simply referenced a day trip to the Oglethorpe or High museums or a concert by the Atlanta Philharmonic Orchestra.

Not so today. As the City has moved grown and progressed since incorporation in 2012, the local arts and culture scene has continuously morphed to meet the everchanging needs of Brookhaven’s diverse residential and business base.

Litter trap installation completes Murphey Candler watershed project

Other improvements included stream bank restoration, lake dredging

 

Brookhaven, GA, July 14, 2020 -- The third and final project planned for 2020 at Murphey Candler Lake/Nancy Creek Watershed was completed this week with the installation of a Bandalong Litter Trap system or “floating trash rack.” The trap will help keep the lake’s waters clean and help improve its purification properties.

Mayor John Ernst signs executive order requiring face masks

Brookhaven, GA, July 9, 2020 – Today, Mayor John Ernst signed an executive order requiring the use of face masks for everyone entering a commercial establishment in Brookhaven to prevent the escalating spread of COVID-19.

“The City of Brookhaven has been taking progressive steps to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, dating back to February.  However, with more than 100,000 cases in Georgia, and thousands more being reported every day, we must take additional steps to ensure the health and well-being of the general public,” said Mayor Ernst.

Fireworks can be legally used in Brookhaven any day from 10 a.m. until 10:30 p.m. and until 11:59 p.m. on July 3 and 4.

NOTICE OF PROPERTY TAX INCREASE 2022

The City of Brookhaven has tentatively adopted a millage rate for the General Fund which will require an increase in property taxes by 2.24 percent over the Rollback Millage rate. This increase is due solely to the revaluation of real property tax assessments.

Brookhaven Municipal Court resumes cases Monday, June 15

Weather Service predicting busy hurricane season with 13-19 predicted storms transitioning into 6-10 hurricanes

Brookhaven, GA, June 11, 2020 -- The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) a division of the National Weather Service, is predicting an “above normal” Atlantic hurricane season this year. The hurricane season lasts from June 1 through November 30.

Brookhaven to hold public hearings for 2020 millage rate

Brookhaven requires face masks as City Hall reopens

Please be aware that due to an annexation that occurred in 2019, the beginning numbers for calculation of the rollback rate are different from the previous period.

Brookhaven announces reopening plans for City Hall and parks facilities as COVID-19 prevention continues

Brookhaven, GA, May 20, 2020 –Brookhaven plans to reopen City Hall and some parks facilities to the public on June 1, as the fight continues against the spread of the COVID-19 virus. Utilizing an innovative split-shift office policy augmented by teleworking, City Hall and parks employees will return to their on-site workspaces on May 26 to prepare for receiving the public on June 1.
