Gateway South planning document ready for review

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Brookhaven, GA, Dec. 8, 2020 – Following public input meetings in September and October, a draft planning document for the Gateway South area is now ready for review.

Earlier this year, the Brookhaven Community Development Department kicked off a visioning process for areas south of Interstate 85. This initiative will serve as an update to the City’s Comprehensive Plan that will guide the future of LaVista Park, surrounding residential areas, and the growing medical activity center.

Statement regarding bond validation petition

The City of Brookhaven Development Authority has asked the DeKalb District Attorney to dismiss the bond validation petition pending in DeKalb Superior Court after learning that the project on Dresden Drive is no longer viable for the developer at this time. The City of Brookhaven and the Development Authority are disappointed about the loss of a quality redevelopment that augments and completes the Dresden corridor.

Brookhaven completes membership to the Social Justice, Race and Equity Commission

Brookhaven, GA, Nov. 13, 2020 – At its regular business meeting on Nov. 10, the City of Brookhaven appointed five additional members to its new Social Justice, Race and Equity Commission, bringing the total on the committee to 37. The City Council approved a resolution establishing the Commission in September and appointed the first 31 members on Oct. 27.

Brookhaven hosts LaVista Park community meeting

The LaVista Park community is invited to join a special LaVista Park community meeting to review the Annexation Special Tax District and the 2021 Proposed Budget as the one-year anniversary of this annexation approaches.  The meeting will be held Thursday, Nov. 5 from 6 – 7 p.m.

This community meeting will be virtual due to the COVID-19 pandemic and shelter-in-place guidelines. The town hall will be hosted by District 4 Council Member Joe Gebbia and City Manager Christian Sigman.

Brookhaven uses CARES Act funds for Brookhaven Chamber of Commerce

Brookhaven, Ga. Oct. 28, 2020— During its regular business meeting on Oct. 27, the Brookhaven City Council unanimously approved $167,000 in CARES Act funds for the Brookhaven Chamber of Commerce. The move will fund the Chamber’s program that helps local businesses who have been impacted by the coronavirus pandemic.
