City Council wrap-up for the Dec. 8 virtual meeting

Brookhaven, GA, Dec. 8, 2020 – The Brookhaven City Council acted on several items in its Dec. 8 business meeting, held via video conference, with public input offered through email and by online comments on Zoom.  The action items are as follows:

  • Councilmember Joe Gebbia announced the Brookhaven Chamber of Commerce was still conducting a charity clothing drive.  New or gently used or new items of clothing, outerwear, sweats, gloves, hats, scarfs, sleeping bag, or blankets are needed.  Items can be donated at Piedmont Bank on Peachtree Blvd., or The Salvation Army Temple Corps on North Druid Hills Road.  The Salvation Army Temple Corps will distribute items to Brookhaven individuals in need.
     
  • Councilmember Joe Gebbia introduced a proposal on the floor to dedicate approximately $20,000 in unspent travel funds to Brookhaven’s tree fund.  The measure passed unanimously. 
     
  • The Mayor and Council unanimously approved a consent agenda which included:
    • The minutes of the Nov. 24 virtual Work Session and Regular Meetings.
    • Task Order #3 for Jacobs Engineering for construction management services for the Public Safety Building.

 

  • The Council unanimously approved an amendment to Chapter 14, Section 14-677, Sidewalks and Bicycle Lanes, providing updates to the City’s sidewalk program which allows for administrative approval for alternative sidewalk installation proposals where conflicts with other development standards or site conditions exist.
     
  • The Council approved amendments to Chapter 4, Related to the Consumption of Beer, Wine and Distilled Spirits on Licenses Premises.  The changes clarify some of the language in the ordinance and applies the same standards to all licensees.
     
  • The Council unanimously approved amendments to Chapter 14, Land Development and Subdivisions, Article VIII, Floodplain Management, Section 14-792, which provides modifications to the city’s floodplain management ordinances to further the establishment of the city’s Community Rating System (CRS) program.
     
  • The Council unanimously approved the establishment of a new project and amended the 2020 General Fund and CIP Budgets to appropriate $108,329 from the General Fund Unassigned Fund Balance for the design and construction of two monuments in the LaVista Park Special Tax District.
     
  • The Council unanimously approved to amend the 2020 General Fund, CIP Fund and SPLOST Fund Budgets, advancing $307,000 from the General Fund Unassigned Fund Balance to the CIP Fund and reallocating $800,000 from the SPLOST Existing Capital Asset Maintenance to SPLOST Transportation Improvements for the Ashford Dunwoody/Peachtree Intersection (MT-01) Project.
  • The Council unanimously approved the adoption of a sidewalk petition policy.
     
  • The Council unanimously approved a contract with Ohmshiv Construction, LLC for Ashford Dunwoody / Peachtree Road Intersection Improvements in the amount of $1,309,417.
