COVID Care site in Brookhaven now offering vaccines and tests

***UDPATE, July 29, 2021: The COVID Care site in Brookhaven has moved to Northeast Plaza, 3371 Buford Highway, Brookhaven, GA 30319.   The site still offers the Moderna vaccine for ages 18 and up and the Pfizer vaccine for ages 12 and up. 9 a.m.-5 p.m. daily except Wednesdays. Early voting available at Lynwood Recreation Center, absentee drop box at City Hall

Brookhaven, GA, Oct. 21, 2020– Although the national election isn’t until Nov. 3, early voting is underway in Georgia and ends on Oct. 30. In Brookhaven, residents who wish to do early in-person voting can go to the Lynwood Park Recreation Center. Those with absentee ballots can use the drop box located at City Hall through Nov. 3 at 7 p.m.

The Lynwood Park Recreation Center, 3360 Osborne Road, is being utilized as Brookhaven’s polling location.

Brookhaven pays off overdue power bills

Brookhaven, GA, Oct. 19, 2020 – The City of Brookhaven used $777,616 in CARES Act funding to pay off overdue electric bills of residents and businesses in the City.

“The CARES Act is dedicated to providing some economic relief to people who have been hit hard by this ongoing COVID-19 pandemic,” said Mayor John Ernst. “Many people have been financially devastated through a decrease of income or an outright job loss.  This is one way we can utilize CARES Act funds to really help those that are in the greatest need.”

Brookhaven protects cyclists, walkers and others with new ordinance

On Tuesday, Oct.13, Brookhaven City Council unanimously approved the Brookhaven Vulnerable Road User Ordinance that provides enhanced protections to non-vehicular users in the event of injury.

Proposed 2021 Brookhaven budget keeps taxes low, halts new projects

Brookhaven, GA, Oct. 13, 2020 – The Brookhaven City Manager’s 2021 Proposed Budget was presented to the Mayor and City Council on Oct. 13 with a focus on continuing the plans and projects the City has underway and maintaining the current level of government services in light of the impact of the global COVID-19 pandemic.

The General Fund budget, which funds the day-to-day operations of the City of Brookhaven, totals $29.9 million, down $1.2 million or 4 percent from the 2020 revised General Fund budget.

Brookhaven approves historic designation for Lynwood Park

Official recognition commemorates brave trailblazers of integration

Brookhaven, GA, Oct. 13, 2020 – At its business meeting on Oct. 13, the City of Brookhaven approved an official historic designation for Lynwood Park and its community.  This is the first historic designation made by the City.

Lynwood Park was established in the early 1930’s and was the first predominantly Black subdivision in DeKalb County.  Residents throughout the following years suffered discrimination and segregation.

Brookhaven authorizes CARES Act allocations

Public safety and government expenditures follow rent & utility relief

Brookhaven, GA, Oct. 13, 2020 –At its business meeting on Oct. 13, the Brookhaven City Council dedicated $570,000 in CARES Act funding for public safety equipment and replacement laptops for government employees working remotely during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The new state-of-the-art Public Safety Building will be outfitted with emergency operation displays, which will keep us connected to other agencies during emergency situations,” said Police Chief Gary Yandura.

Brookhaven extends COVID-19 emergency declaration to Nov. 30

Brookhaven, GA, Sept. 24, 2020 – At its regular business meeting on Sept. 22, the Brookhaven City Council extended the public health emergency declaration due to the proliferation of the COVID-19 pandemic until Nov. 30.  The original emergency declaration was made in March and has been amended and extended several times since.
