Annual Paint the Park contest returns to Brookhaven in virtual format

Brookhaven's Paint the Park event this year will be done virtually

Use any City park for inspiration

Brookhaven, GA, Sept. 11, 2020 – Cooler temperatures and leaves changing color can only mean one thing: it’s time for the annual Brookhaven Paint the Park art contest.

With the ongoing coronavirus pandemic and out of safety concerns for residents, the contest returns in a different format in 2020. Taking a page from the #BrookhavenStrong art competition held earlier this year, the City is conducting Paint the Park as a virtual art challenge. Creative artists of all ages can visit any of the City’s parks for inspiration, practicing social distancing of course, to capture beautiful fall scenes.

The free event, coordinated by the Brookhaven Parks and Recreation department, is open to artists of all ages and skill levels. Prizes will be part of the fun with art supplies awarded for first, second and third place each in age groups 0-7, 8-13 and 14+. Different mediums will be accepted, including paintings, drawings, sculptures, graphic design, etc.

“This great event gets more and more popular every year,” said District 1 Councilwoman Linley Jones. “We believe that it not only illustrates the importance of art in our community, but due to the pandemic, will allow artists to showcases the beauty found in Brookhaven’s many parks. This will offer an opportunity for residents to visit parks they may not have taken the time to visit before now. This event really demonstrates that we are Brookhaven Strong by creating an avenue to showcase our City’s art and artists even in the midst of the pandemic.”

Judges for the event will be drawn from Brookhaven’s vast art community and winners will be featured on the City’s social media outlets.

Any questions should be submitted by email to Parks and Recreation Event Coordinator Mallory Izbicki at Mallory.Izbicki@BrookhavenGA.gov. All entries should be sent to the same email address between now and Oct. 14
