Brookhaven establishes Arts and Culture Commission to advance the arts and culture master plan

Brookhaven, Ga, Jan. 28, 2021— The Brookhaven City Council unanimously approved a resolution to establish the Brookhaven Arts and Culture Commission, which will advocate for advancing the arts and culture master plan Arts Brookhaven: A Vision for Culture and Creativity in our Community, adopted in 2020. The Commission will include nine voting seats and up to ten ex-officio seats. Members will consist of both community members and regional experts with advisory roles for high school and university students.

Brookhaven provides direct relief to residents and businesses using all CARES Act funds

Brookhaven, GA, Jan. 14, 2021— By the end of 2020, the City of Brookhaven made use of all the $6.3 million in CARES Act funds, Assistant City Manager and Chief Financial Officer Steve Chapman reported to the Brookhaven City Council during the regular businesses meeting on Jan. 12. Brookhaven used $2.2 million of these funds for direct economic support for thousands of families and over 100 local businesses. More than $1 million of the funds were used for medical expenses and public health efforts.

City sues to liberate Brookhaven Park from DeKalb County

Brookhaven, GA, Jan. 11, 2021 – Today, the City of Brookhaven filed a lawsuit to compel DeKalb County to transfer title and control over all portions of Brookhaven Park to the City. 

Brookhaven Park, located at the southwest corner of Peachtree Road and Osborne Road, is a 21-acre park which contains athletic fields and courts, trails, multi-use fields and greenspaces; a community center, picnic areas and other amenities.  The Park is probably best known for its open fields, festivals, and the largest (5-acre) dog park in metro Atlanta.

Flower Power at Blackburn Park

10,000 daffodils to festoon the hillsides fronting Ashford Dunwoody

 

 

Brookhaven, GA, Dec. 14, 2020 – One by one, a journey of 10,000 steps is taking place in Blackburn Park.

Crews began a prolific bulb-planting today, as daffodils were positioned on the hills in full view of Ashford Dunwoody Road in Blackburn Park.

“This is just another step to making the Brookhaven Park experience the best it can be.  What we are planting today will be enjoyed for many springs in the years to come,” said Brookhaven Mayor John Ernst.

Gateway South planning document ready for review

Brookhaven, GA, Dec. 8, 2020 – Following public input meetings in September and October, a draft planning document for the Gateway South area is now ready for review.

Earlier this year, the Brookhaven Community Development Department kicked off a visioning process for areas south of Interstate 85. This initiative will serve as an update to the City’s Comprehensive Plan that will guide the future of LaVista Park, surrounding residential areas, and the growing medical activity center.
