City Council wrap-up for the Jan. 12 virtual meeting

Brookhaven, GA, Jan. 12, 2021 – The Brookhaven City Council acted on several items in its Jan. 12 business meeting, held via video conference, with public input offered through email and by online comments on Zoom.  The action items are as follows:

  • The Mayor and Council issued a proclamation in recognition of Coach Alan Chadwick and the 2020 AAAA GHSA State Champion Marist War Eagles.
  • The Mayor and Council issued a proclamation in recognition of the DeKalb County Election workers for the recent General and Run Off Elections.
  • The Mayor and Council unanimously approved a consent agenda which included:
    • The minutes of the Dec. 8 virtual Work Session and Regular Meetings.
    • A contract for solicitor services for Brookhaven Municipal Court with Schwarz Law Firm, LLC.
    • A contract for continuous renewals.
    • A CARES Act funding plan status and update.

 

  • The Mayor and Council heard the 2021 Community Development Fee Schedule update.
  • The Mayor and Council reappointed the members to the Park Bond Citizens Oversight Committee.
  • The Mayor and Council reappointed Pete Stobie to the Audit Advisory Committee.
  • The Council unanimously approved a resolution to allow the City Manager to enter into an agreement with Georgia Power to install and operate publicly accessible electric vehicle charging stations at the Public Safety Building at 1793 Briarwood Road.
     
  • The Council unanimously approved an ordinance to amend the 2021 General Fund Budget to appropriate an amount not to exceed $102,000 for Professional Services for Peachtree Government Relations and Garst Thomas Public Affairs, and subsequently renewed the contracts with Peachtree Government Relations and Garst Thomas Public Affairs.
     
  • The Council unanimously approved an ordinance to amend Section 17-220, involving restrictions on parking heavy or oversize vehicles, campers, boats, etc., on residential streets.
     
  • The Council unanimously approved a task order with Summit Construction and Development for drainage system rehabilitation at 1375 Fernwood Circle in the amount of $71,340.
     
  • The Council unanimously approved a contract with Ed Castro Landscaping for North Fork Nancy Creek stream bank restoration in the amount of $306,000.
  • The Council unanimously approved a supplemental agreement with Lose & Associates for permitting services, bidding services, construction related services and reimbursable expenses for the upcoming Brookhaven Park improvements in the amount of $148,522.
     
  • The Council unanimously approved a resolution approving the acquisition of real property for the Ashford Dunwoody at Peachtree Road MT-01 Project.
     
  • The Council unanimously approved a resolution to publish the qualifying fees for the General Municipal Election for the City of Brookhaven for the offices of Council Members of Districts 2 and 4.
  • The Council unanimously approved an ordinance extending the declaration of a State of Emergency arising because of COVID-19, taking immediate emergency measures; adopting the conditions of the Governor's Executive Order 06.11.20.01; and for other purposes.
  • The Council unanimously approved renewal extensions of certain contracts which automatically expired at the end of 2020.
