City Council virtual meeting on Sept. 22

Brookhaven, GA, Sept. 21, 2020 – The Brookhaven City Council will conduct its next regularly scheduled business meeting Sept. 22, at 7 p.m.  In consideration of social distancing recommendations by the World Health Organization, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and State Board of Health, the meeting will be held via video conference. 

In order to ensure transparency and accountability, the meeting will be broadcast on Facebook Live on the City’s Facebook page at www.Facebook.com/BrookhavenGAgov.  The public will be able to weigh in during Public Hearings and Public Comment by any of the following options:

The Sept. 22 business meeting contains the following for City Council consideration:

  • A recognition of State Representative Matthew Wilson as “Champion of Georgia Cities” Award.
  • A public hearing and consideration of an ordinance to amend section 27-472 of the Brookhaven code, related to ground story uses.
  • A public comment availability.
  • A consent agenda which includes:
    • The minutes of the Sept. 8 virtual Work Session and Regular Meetings.
    • Surplus vehicles.
    • A contract for the purchase of property at 3070 Ashford Dunwoody Road (approx. 0.038 acres).
  • An ordinance to amend the 2020 Hotel/Motel Tax Fund Budget, recognizing the negative revenue impact due to the COVID 19 pandemic, allowing the finance department to make technical changes as necessary.
     
  • An ordinance to establish and appropriate a grant fund to receive CARES Act revenue and execute eligible expenditures as a subrecipient of DeKalb County, declaring the expenditures as a necessary response to the COVID 19 pandemic, authorizing the City Manager to use emergency purchasing authority in order to comply with the fiscal requirements of the grant, and appropriating $6,3300,934 to be expended.
  • An ordinance to deannex property from the City of Brookhaven located at 3228 Caldwell Road.
     
  • An ordinance to enact Sections of Chapter 17, Motor Vehicles and Traffic, to be called the "Brookhaven Vulnerable Road User" Ordinance, to provide for definitions and penalties, to set an effective date, and other purposes.
     
  • A ordinance to make several text changes to clarify the sign ordinance.
  • An ordinance to amend the 2020 Budget for the Police Department top accept two grant from the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety in the amounts of $49,032 and $59,361.
     
  • An ordinance extending the declaration of a state of emergency arising due to the COVID-19 pandemic to November 30, taking immediate emergency measures; adopting the conditions of the Governor's Executive Order; establishing an effective date; and other purposes.
  • A public hearing for the HUD Citizens Participation Plan, consideration of adoption of same, and submission to the US Office of Housing and Urban Development is the initial step in establishing eligibility for receipt of funds from that agency as an entitlement community.
  • Consideration of Arts Brookhaven: a Vision for Arts & Culture in Our Community.
  • A contract for Ambience Group in the amount of $84,911 for the renovation of the interior of the Briarwood Recreation Center.
