FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Gymnasium and interior facelift follows completion of new pool

Brookhaven, GA, Sept. 25, 2020 – Now that all of the new pool upgrades have been completed, Brookhaven is now focusing on improvements to the Briarwood Recreation Center itself.

At its regular business meeting on Sept. 22, the Brookhaven City Council unanimously approved a contract for Ambience Group in the amount of $84,911 for the renovation of the interior and gymnasium at the Briarwood Recreation Center. The improvements include:

  • Replace flooring throughout, including the resurfacing of the gym floor
  • Remodel men’s and women’s restroom with updated fixtures
  • Paint, replace, and repair trim fixtures of the interior common areas
  • Replace all exterior windows on the front and side of building
  • Replace the cabinets, countertops, sink, and shelving in the kitchen area.
  • The classroom and dance room get a facelift and equipment to enhance rental use

Work will begin in the next two weeks, and scheduled for completion by year’s end.

“One of the reasons that Brookhaven was founded in 2012 was the desire of residents to have a premiere park system that all can enjoy,” noted District 2 Council Member John Park. “This is another step on the journey of fulfilling the vision of the Brookhaven community.”

The upgrades to the Recreation Center follow the recent grand opening of the newly-renovated Briarwood Park pool. The $3.5 million upgrade features a 75-foot-long six-lane competition section and a “cool surface” pool deck featuring a new pavilion, bleachers, and umbrellas for shade.  The pool reopened to the public earlier this month and remains open on weekends before closing for the season at the end of September.
