City Council wrap-up for the Nov. 24 virtual meeting

Brookhaven, GA, Nov. 25, 2020 – The Brookhaven City Council acted on several items in its Nov. 24 business meeting, held via video conference, with public input offered through email and by online comments on Zoom.  The action items are as follows:

  • The Mayor and Council held a public hearing and unanimously approved a request to rezone 1396 & 1400 Lake Hearn Drive to allow a mixed-use development by AMLI Residential.
  • The Mayor and Council held a public hearing and unanimously approved a request to rezone 1329 & 1331 Sylvan Circle for a 2-lot reconfiguration.
  • The Mayor and Council unanimously approved an ordinance to amend the Code of Ordinances regarding outdoor storage and service area screening.
  • The Mayor and Council unanimously approved the appointment of Anibal Torres Jr. to the Brookhaven Convention and Visitors Bureau.
  • The Mayor and Council unanimously approved a consent agenda which included:
    • The minutes of the Nov. 10 virtual Work Session and Regular Meetings.
    • Board of Appeals 2021 Process and Meeting Calendar.
    • 2021 Land Use Process and Meeting Calendar.
    • Brookhaven Convention and Visitors Bureau FY2021 budget.
    • Change order for BM&K Construction & Engineering for the Public Safety Building for increase of geothermal heating and cooling for $453,128.
    • Change order for Ashford Dunwoody Road/Montgomery Elementary project contract with DAF Concrete, Inc., for $13,979.05.
  • The Mayor and Council unanimously approved an ordinance to amend the FY2020 Budget for acceptance of U.S. Department of Justice Funds.
  • The Mayor and Council unanimously approved an ordinance to amend the General Fund and CIP 2020 Budget – appropriating $158,260 from the General Fund Sidewalk Bank Balance for the construction of a multi-use path along Briarwood Road; appropriating $180,000 from the General Fund Future Capital Improvements Assigned Fund Balance for Capital Improvement Initiatives; and appropriating $95,000 from the General Fund Balance for the Social Justice, Race and Equity Commission.
  • The Mayor and Council unanimously approved a contract with Chrysalis Lab to provide facilitation services for the Brookhaven Social Justice, Race and Equity Commission.
  • The Mayor and Council unanimously approved a recommended Employee Incentive Initiative.
  • The Mayor and Council unanimously approved an ordinance to amend the Stormwater Fund Budget for the 2020 Fiscal Year, reallocating $334,653 from four existing stormwater projects to fund four new stormwater projects.
  • The Mayor and Council unanimously approved an ordinance to amend the 2020 General Fund and Stormwater Fund Budget – appropriating a loan of $647,422.93 from the General Fund Unassigned Fund Balance to the Stormwater Fund for the Murphey Candler Lake Dredging Project.
  • The Mayor and Council unanimously approved an ordinance extending the COVID-19 State of Emergency to Jan. 15, 2021.
  • The Mayor and Council unanimously approved a CARES Act funding plan adjustment.
