Brookhaven Police Department’s virtual 5K will aid Shop With a Badge initiative

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Brookhaven, GA, June 19, 2019 – The public is invited to participate in the Brookhaven Police Department’s seventh annual Hot Pursuit and Glow Run race and help make a difference in a child’s life.

This year, to preserve the safety and good health of participants due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the race will be virtual. Participants will run (or walk) the Hot Pursuit 5K in the location of their choosing between Aug. 8 and Aug. 22. To document their time, runners will use any running tracking app on their phone or smartwatch and send a screenshot of their results to the registration site. All participants will receive a finisher medal and an event T-shirt.

The race has raised thousands of dollars in past years for the Police Department’s Shop With a Badge initiative. All funds raised through race registration fees, donations, and corporate sponsorships are divided amongst Brookhaven’s underprivileged children to use at Target.  The children are escorted by participating police officers, sheriff's deputies, troopers, and various other first responders to pick out much needed items and maybe a toy or two.

Alongside this great cause, Brookhaven PD is dedicating this year's race to the memory of George Floyd and the fight against police misconduct.

“We are grateful for Brookhaven residents’ continued support of this event,” said BPD Sgt. David Snively. “I hope that with this year’s event being virtual, we’ll have even more participants to help in this great cause.”
