City Council wrap-up of the May 26 virtual meeting

Brookhaven, GA, May 27, 2020 – The Brookhaven City Council acted on several items in its May 26 business meeting, held via video conference, with public input offered through email and by online comments on Facebook Live.  The action items are as follows:

  • The Mayor and Council received presentations about the reopening of Brookhaven Parks facilities and Buford Highway massing concepts for the Buford Highway Improvement Plan update.
  • The Mayor and Council held a public hearing and subsequently approved rezoning properties at 1035, 1045, 1055, and 1065 Lenox Park Boulevard from O-1 (Office Institutional) District - Conditional to RSA-18 (Townhomes (18 Upa)) District; with concurrent variance: (1) Section 27.79A to reduce the rear yard setback; and (2) waive Section 27-158 (C) Garage Requirements.
  • The Mayor and Council unanimously approved the consent agenda to approve minutes of the May 12 virtual meeting and to approve a resolution allowing for an employee paid time off (PTO) buyback program.
  • The Council unanimously approved an ordinance extending the Declaration of a State of Emergency Arising Because of COVID-19 established by ordinance ORD 2020-03-05 as modified by ordinance ORD 2020-03-06; taking immediate emergency measures; adopting the conditions of the Governor's Executive Order 05.12.20; and for other purposes.
  • The Council unanimously approved an ordinance to require visitors and contractors entering City of Brookhaven buildings or facilities to wear face coverings over the nose and mouth.
  • The Council unanimously approved an ordinance suspending the application of Brookhaven Ordinance Section 2-179 related to the time for changes in the City’s fee schedule to take effect from 45 days to 7 days from posting on the City's website during the time of the State of Emergency as declared by the State or the City of Brookhaven.
  • The Council unanimously approved a contract with Clark, Patterson & Lee (CPL) for design of Ashford Dunwoody Road/Windsor Parkway Intersection in the amount of $514,700.
  • The Council approved the reopening of Brookhaven Parks facilities as announced last week, except for the official start of organized sports on athletic fields, which was advanced to June 1 instead of June 15.
