NOTICE OF PROPERTY TAX INCREASE

The City of Brookhaven has tentatively adopted a millage rate for the General Fund which will require an increase in property taxes by 4.34 percent over the Rollback Millage rate. This increase is due solely to the revaluation of real property tax assessments.

Please be aware that due to an annexation that occurred in 2019, the beginning numbers for calculation of the rollback rate are different from the previous period.

All concerned citizens are invited to the VIRTUAL public hearings on this tax increase to be held ONLINE THROUGH A ZOOM LINK.  This action is due to the current closure of the Brookhaven City Hall located at 4362 Peachtree Road, Brookhaven, GA 30319 due to the current emergency. The first public hearing will be held at 7:00 p.m. on June 9, 2020.

The second public and third public hearings will be held by VIRTUAL MEETING on June 23, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. After the final public hearing, the millage rate will be formally adopted at the June 23, 2020 meeting at 7:00 p.m.

The VIRTUAL meeting links will be posted on the City of Brookhaven website: https://brookhavenga.gov/   prominently 72 hours before each meeting.

The tentative increase will result in a millage rate of 2.74 mills, a millage rate equivalent increase of 0.114 mills. Without this tentative tax increase, the millage rate will be no more than 2.626 mills. The proposed tax increase for a home with a fair market value of $465,880 is approximately $21.24 and the proposed tax increase for non-homestead property with a fair market value of $1,832,642 is approximately $83.57.
