The Brookhaven Beat: A glimpse into the work of Brookhaven Police

Brookhaven, GA, Feb. 22, 2019 – On Feb. 12, Brookhaven Police made a high profile arrest following a SWAT standoff in the 3300 Block of Osborne Road.  In addition, during the week of Feb. 11-17, police answered 1,728 other calls for service.  This includes 116 incident reports, 104 citations and 20 arrests.  This is a sampling of some of those calls:

Volunteers needed for 5th Annual Storm Drain Marker Volunteer Event

Brookhaven, GA, Feb. 21, 2019 - The City of Brookhaven’s Stormwater Division is seeking participants for its 5th Annual Storm Drain Marker Volunteer Event on Saturday, March 23, from 10 a.m. to noon. 

This year the project will focus on the E. Nancy Creek/Berkford Circle/Brawley Circle/Perimeter Summit Parkway areas. Volunteers will park and meet at the cul-de-sac at Triple Creek Ct. off E. Nancy Creek Drive at 9:45 a.m. to receive instructions and materials.

Brookhaven residents get a heads up with Brookhaven Alert

Brookhaven, GA, Feb. 1, 2019 – Yesterday, a car accident at Peachtree Road and North Druid Hills blocked all lanes of traffic during afternoon traffic.  Most commuters stumbled onto the gridlock without warning, but some people got a warning text or email in advance.  They also received word when the wreckage was cleared. 

Two days before, a structure fire closed a portion of Windsor Parkway.  Again, it was a surprise to most, but many received a heads-up text which explained not only what was happening, but where and why.

Brookhaven authorizes police compensation hike

Officers, Sergeants, Lieutenants targeted in first phase of Citywide review

Brookhaven, GA, Jan. 22, 2019 – At the behest of Police Chief Gary Yandura, the City of Brookhaven authorized the compensation policy and pay adjustments for police officers, sergeants and lieutenants.  The ordinance approved by the City Council authorizes the City Manager to make equity adjustments as needed to ensure Brookhaven remains competitive in the public safety job market.

City Council wrap up: Highlights from the Jan. 8 meeting

Brookhaven, GA, Jan. 8, 2019 – The Brookhaven City Council acted on several items in its Jan. 8 meeting at Brookhaven City Hall: 

·         The Council unanimously approved the reappointment of Susan Coker to the Development Authority.  Coker’s, new term expires April 9, 2021. Marquita Jackson was also appointed to the Development Authority replacing Pat Hoban who resigned.  Jackson’s term expires April 9, 2019.
