City Council wrap up: Highlights from the July 24 meeting

Brookhaven, GA, July 27, 2018 – The Brookhaven City Council acted on several items in its July 24 meeting at Brookhaven City Hall. 

·         The Mayor and Council honored all of the Murphey Candler Baseball and Murphey Candler Girls Fast Pitch Softball League Tournament Champions for the 2018 season.

·         The Mayor and Council received a presentation from Courtney Rogers at Davenport & Company regarding the “triple-A” credit ratings from Moody’s and Standard & Poors.

Brookhaven approves Parks Bond referendum for November ballot

Brookhaven places ‘Brunch Bill’ on November ballot

Brookhaven, GA, July 24, 2018 – Brookhaven voters will decide on Nov. 6 if restaurants in the City can start serving alcoholic beverages a little earlier on Sundays.

The Mayor and City Council voted unanimously on Tuesday to allow the “Brunch Bill” on the General Election ballot. If passed, restaurants will be able to serve alcohol from 11 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. on Sundays. Currently, Sunday hours are from 12:30 to 11:59 p.m.

Brookhaven approves funding for Municipal Maintenance Yard

Brookhaven, GA, July 24, 2018 – The Brookhaven City Council unanimously approved a contract in the amount of $113,690 with Pro Building System to establish a Public Works and Parks Maintenance Yard.

The yard will be located at 1793 Briarwood Road, and eliminate the need to store Public Works equipment at the current location at Osborne Park.

Brookhaven begins maintenance at Murphey Candler spillway

Brookhaven, GA, July 20, 2018—The Brookhaven Public Works Department and contractors from Site Engineering are conducting maintenance at the Murphey Candler Spillway site.

Over the next several weeks, workers will be clearing shrubs and other vegetation, performing minor concrete resurfacing, and conducting site inspections.  During this time, it is expected that the work will have minimal impact on the activities of park visitors, although when the concrete work begins, the sidewalk at the spillway may be closed for a few days.

Administration submits Parks Bond project list to Mayor and City Council

Brookhaven, GA, July 10, 2018 – Today, Brookhaven City Manager Christian Sigman forwarded a recommended project list of Parks capital improvement projects to the Mayor and City Council.  If the Mayor and City Council choose to place a Park Bond Referendum on the Nov. 6, 2018 ballot, the City Council must adopt a resolution calling the election ballot question at its July 24 meeting.

City Council maintains same millage rate for fourth year in a row

Brookhaven CFO:  Lowest millage illustrates government efficiency

Brookhaven, GA, June 28, 2018 – At a time when surrounding cities are facing the prospect of raising their millage rates, Brookhaven has opted for the fourth year in a row to keep its rate at 2.74 mills.

The 2.74 millage is the lowest rate of cities in DeKalb County that assess a millage. The City Council adopted the rate at a special meeting today, following three public hearings.

Brookhaven approves comprehensive study of the North Druid Hills Corridor

Brookhaven, GA, June 20, 2018 – The Brookhaven City Council approved funding for a contract for a comprehensive study of the North Druid Hills Corridor from Peachtree Road to Buford Highway.

The $127,000 contract was awarded to Gresham Smith & Partners, the same firm which conducted the Ashford Dunwoody Corridor Study.  The Ashford Dunwoody Corridor Study was approved by Brookhaven on April 25, 2017.
