Brookhaven, GA, Jan. 22, 2019 – The Brookhaven Mayor, City Council and Brookhaven Police leadership honored one of their own at City Hall today.  Sgt. Charles McCoy was commended for going above and beyond the call of duty, making a holiday season arrest while driving home from work.

On Dec. 15, Sgt. McCoy spotted someone was running away from a front porch, holiday package in hand.  Sgt. McCoy quickly intervened and detained the suspect while calling for backup, even though he was technically off the clock at the time.  Additional officers were called in and conducted a quick neighborhood canvas to identify the owners of the merchandise the suspect had in his car.  Several victims were rapidly located.

Isaiah Gresham is from Marietta and was charged with theft, loitering and prowling, and driving on a suspended license.

“Thanks to Sgt. McCoy’s awareness and quick action, along with the other officers who responded in support, we were able to get another criminal off the streets and prevent several Christmas holidays from being ruined by thieves,” said Police Chief Gary Yandura.
