The Brookhaven Beat: A glimpse into the work of Brookhaven Police

Brookhaven, GA, Feb. 22, 2019 – On Feb. 12, Brookhaven Police made a high profile arrest following a SWAT standoff in the 3300 Block of Osborne Road.  In addition, during the week of Feb. 11-17, police answered 1,728 other calls for service.  This includes 116 incident reports, 104 citations and 20 arrests.  This is a sampling of some of those calls:

Sat. Feb. 16 – DUI, Dresden Dr at Grant DrOfficers responded to a call regarding a vehicle that struck a power pole and overturned.  Prior to arrival, bystanders pulled a female driver from the vehicle. The driver admitted to drinking alcohol and taking muscle relaxers. She failed field sobriety exercises. She was transported to Atlanta Medical Center and was released to the hospital staff for treatment.

Fri. Feb. 15 - Battery, 1000 Block of Baron AveOfficers responded to a domestic dispute call. During the investigation, officers found the offender threw a lamp at his girlfriend and struck her, causing a visible injury. The offender was arrested and transported to the DeKalb County Jail.

Fri. Feb. 15 – Stolen vehicle recovered, 3300 Block of Buford HighwayOfficers responded to a License Plate Reader (LPR) hit regarding a stolen vehicle.  Officers located the 2005 Honda Odyssey in a parking lot.  The driver tried to evade police but ended up boxed in between other parked cars.  Two suspects, both from Doraville, were arrested and the vehicle was recovered.  Police also found a stolen Social Security card, cocaine, and a homemade car key.

Thurs. Feb. 14 – Truant Juveniles – 4300 Block of Peachtree RoadOfficers responded to a report of disorderly juveniles causing disturbances at area businesses. The five juveniles were located, and it was determined that all were truant from Douglass High School in Atlanta. Three juveniles were on probation in Fulton County and all were 14 or 15 years old. All were cited with truancy after their parents advised they had no transportation to pick them up in Brookhaven.

Thurs. Feb. 14 – Truant Juveniles - 1400 Block of N Cliff Valley Way: An officer was on patrol in the area when three juveniles were observed walking in the area. The juveniles attempted to avoid detection but failed. They were escorted back to Cross Keys High School after advising the officers they were on their way to Pizza Hut while skipping school. They were released to the custody of school officials with written warnings for truancy.
