City Council wrap up: Highlights from the Jan. 8 meeting

Brookhaven, GA, Jan. 8, 2019 – The Brookhaven City Council acted on several items in its Jan. 8 meeting at Brookhaven City Hall: 

·         The Council unanimously approved the reappointment of Susan Coker to the Development Authority.  Coker’s, new term expires April 9, 2021. Marquita Jackson was also appointed to the Development Authority replacing Pat Hoban who resigned.  Jackson’s term expires April 9, 2019.

·         The Council unanimously approved an agreement in the amount of $289,750 with Georgia Power for the lighting of the Peachtree Creek Greenway Trail to include 87 LED post top lights and nine 230-watt LED area lights.

·         The Council unanimously approved a resolution ratifying and renewing 192 contracts and 26 intergovernmental agreements.

·         The Council unanimously approved an agreement with Schwarz Law Firm, LLC, as Solicitor for City of Brookhaven Municipal Court.

·         The Council unanimously approved a retainer agreement for the City Attorney.

·         The Council unanimously approved an ordinance to make several technical changes to the City of Brookhaven Charter.  This ordinance goes back to Council for a second reading and approval at the Jan. 22 meeting in order to take effect.

·         The Council unanimously approved an ordinance to amend the Capital Improvement Programs (CIP) Fund, HOST Fund, SPLOST Fund, and General Fund budgets for Fiscal Year 2018. This ensures capital projects spanning multiple years are properly accounted for each year.

·         The Council unanimously approved a contract in the amount of $325,000 to Lose & Associates to complete the engineering and design documents from 60% to 100% for Brookhaven Park.

·         The Council unanimously approved a contract in the amount of $201,226 to Ed Castro Landscape Inc. for invasive plant removal at several Brookhaven parks and greenspace properties.  This will be the first project to begin that is included in the Park Bond that was passed by Brookhaven voters on Nov. 6.
