Plan Submittals & Review Process

Plan Submittal Requirements:

All commercial building plans must bear the seal of a Georgia registered architect or engineer, unless exempted by State Law.

Review Process:

Plans submitted to the Fire Marshal’s office take between three to 10 business days for review. Upon completion of the review the applicant will receive an email or call informing them that their plans have been approved and are ready for pick-up. For reviews that have comments, the applicant will be notified of the specific comments in a form through e-mail correspondence.

Applicable Codes:

  • 2018 Edition, Life Safety Code (NFPA 101) with 2020 Amendments.
  • 2018 Edition, International Fire Code with 2020 Amendments.
  • Chapter 120-3-3, 2020 Amendments, Rules and Regulations for the State Minimum Fire Safety Standards.
  • Chapter 120-3-20 Georgia Accessibility Code.
  • 2010 ADA Standards for Accessibility.
  • 2019 Editions of NFPA 10, 13, 13R, 14, 20, 24, 72, 80 and 110.
  • 2017 Edition of NFPA 96.

Plan Resubmittals:

All resubmittals must be submitted online through the project portal.  Reviewers should be contacted directly only to address questions regarding specific comments.  RESUBMITTALS NOT RECEIVED THROUGH THE PROJECT PORTAL WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED

Please include a copy of the comments with the resubmittal as well as (2) copies of the resubmitted plans. Respondent must initial each item on the comment form to indicate that the comment(s) have been addressed; provide written responses to all the comments; cloud changes on plans; and revise cover sheet to show date of revisions and new pages, if any.

Incomplete resubmittals will delay permit approvals.
