Brookhaven ends zoning moratorium

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Permit window open early with new hours

Brookhaven, GA, Feb. 27, 2018 – The Brookhaven City Council unanimously approved a resolution to correct a technical error in the City’s code of ordinances, which had caused a brief moratorium on all zoning cases, land disturbance permits and building permits.

The resolution states that “The original ordinance …for the City of Brookhaven may not have adequately preserved and continued the conditions, variances, and other changes to the underlying Code which had been approved by the DeKalb County Board of Commissioners for properties within the new City of Brookhaven.”

Beginning Wednesday, Feb. 28, Brookhaven returns to normal operations but with a slight improvement.  The City’s permits window hours will change to 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

“We have heard from our developers who said they want to get an early start on their work day, so we are accommodating their request,” said Community Development Director Patrice Ruffin.  “We want to be as business-friendly as possible.”

The early window hours apply to Land Disturbance Permits, Building Permits, Tree Permits, Trade Permits and Interior Renovation Permits.  Other applications for non-construction activities, such as business and alcohol licenses, or zoning applications will be accepted during the normal operating hours of Brookhaven City Hall from 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m.

To celebrate the first day of the new service hours and the lifting of the temporary moratorium; coffee, juice, and donuts will be served to Brookhaven permit customers.
