Brookhaven Multimodal Study survey

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Brookhaven, GA, May 4, 2023 – The City of Brookhaven is seeking public input for its Multimodal Plan with an online survey and an open house on May 18.

The plan will serve as an update to the City’s first Bicycle, Pedestrian, and Trail Plan, which was adopted in 2016. The plan examined existing conditions and identified locations where improvements for bicyclists and pedestrians were most needed. In keeping with the plan, $50,000 is provided annually in the Capital Improvement Plan for sidewalk maintenance and ADA compliance, in addition to the Public Works Department’s annual operating budget for sidewalk repair. Additionally, in 2018, the City Council adopted changes to the sidewalk policy that require any new development to install sidewalks or multiuse paths consistent with the plan. Funding has also been adopted for a multi-use path infill project on Briarwood Road from North Druid Hills Road to Buford Highway. Phase I of the Peachtree Creek Greenway is complete, with Phase II in the preliminary design phase.

The Multimodal Plan will update the 2016 plan and build upon the existing network and work already completed to establish a thorough network of trails, lanes, and paths with an expanded multimodal focus.

“The overall goal of this plan is to provide safe, connected and efficient transportation for our residents, whether they are walking, biking, or using dockless mobility devices or public transportation,” said Assistant City Manager Patrice Ruffin. “I encourage our residents to take the survey, visit the open house, and stay tuned for more public input opportunities.”

The open house takes place on Thursday, May 18, 6-7:30 p.m., at Brookhaven City Hall, 4362 Peachtree Road. The survey can be found here.

Consultants for the project will also host a pop-up event on Sunday, May 7, 1:30-4 p.m., at Skyland Park, 2600 Skyland Drive, as part of the Brookhaven Bike Alliance’s Pedal the Parks.
