Brookhaven, GA, Mar. 10, 2020 – The Brookhaven City Council approved the presentation of commendation certificates to Brookhaven Police Officers during its March 10 regular business meeting at City Hall.

Officer Andrea Serrano and Officer Travis Nguyen were commended for an arrest made on Nov. 7, 2019.  Officer Serrano responded to the Costco at Town Brookhaven in reference to a Fraud in Progress. When she arrived, the subject fled on foot and Officer Serrano gave chase while providing crucial information to dispatch about the direction of the chase.  Using this information, Officer Nguyen was able to position himself in the path of the foot chase and assisting Officer Serrano with the apprehension of the suspect.

Sergeant Patrick Bolls, Sergeant Delroy Stewart and Officer Ellen Akins were commended for an arrest made on Jan. 19, 2020.  In the early morning hours, City of Palmetto Police responded to a residential fire which turned out to be an attempt to cover up a home invasion.  The victim reported that he was robbed by three men and locked in a bathroom while the house was doused in gasoline and set on fire.  He escaped through a window and gave the description to Palmetto Police, who tracked the victim’s stolen cell phone to an apartment in Brookhaven.  Working with Palmetto Police, Sergeant Bolls and Sergeant Stewart located and detained the subjects who still had the victim’s cell phone.  Two of the offenders were transported by Brookhaven Police Officer Akins to the Palmetto Police Headquarters.  All of the stolen property was recovered, but the residence was a total loss.

“The dedication and professional assistance of all of these officers in both cases reflects the caliber of personnel of the Brookhaven Police Department.   The teamwork that took place between these officers took violent criminals off our streets and we appreciate the good work these men and women do day in and day out,” said Police Chief Gary Yandura.
