The Brookhaven Beat: The work of Brookhaven Police, Aug. 12-18

Brookhaven, GA, Aug 20, 2019 – During the week of Aug. 12-18, Brookhaven Police responded to 1,971 calls which included 130 incident reports, 98 citations, and 29 arrests.  This is a sampling of some of those calls:

Sat. Aug. 17 – Fraud Impersonation, 3500 block of Stratfield Dr. (multiple locations): Officers responded to several reports of a vehicle pulling up to mailboxes and a male reaching in and attempting to steal mail. The vehicle is a black Nissan sedan with black rims and a loud exhaust system. The victims all had RING cameras that caught the vehicle on camera.

Sat. Aug. 17 – Marijuana Possession, Osborne Rd & Windsor Pkwy.: Officers observed a large amount of smoke coming from a vehicle at the above location. Thinking the vehicle was on fire, they investigated. Upon their approach, they were greeted by a strong odor of marijuana. The driver was detained, the vehicle searched, and a large amount of packaged marijuana and a scale were located. The subject was taken to the DeKalb County Jail.

Fri. Aug. 16 – Simple Battery, 100 block of Glen Way: A female victim was walking down the stairs and her purse struck another female that was sitting at the bottom of the stairs. The suspect stared at the victim as the victim apologized. The suspect then threw a cup of hot noodles at the victim. The victim did not sustain any injury and refused medical treatment. The suspect was arrested and taken to the DeKalb County Jail.

Thurs. Aug. 15 – Cruelty to Animals, 100 block of Town Blvd.: A dog was left in a vehicle while the owner was inside shopping. The temperature was 93 degrees and the owner was inside for at least 10 minutes. The owner was issued a State of Georgia Uniform Citation for Cruelty to Animals.

Thurs. Aug. 15 – Entering Auto x3, 2200 block of Lake Blvd.: The victim stated she parked her car in the morning and when leaving for lunch around noon, discovered her driver front window smashed in. Security cameras showed a silver Honda is seen backing into the nearby handicap spot. A female and male then roamed through the parking garage. The female then moved the car in front of the three victim’s cars. The male then entered the cars. The suspect’s car then left, and when it did the license plate was visible to the security camera.

Thurs. Aug. 15 – Wanted Person Located/LPR Hit, 2900 block of Buford Hwy.: Officer received a License Plate Reader (LPR) alert on a stolen 2018 White Kia, on N. Druid Hills heading toward I-85. The vehicle was stolen from Hertz Rental Car. The vehicle was stopped in front of police headquarters.  The subject had a warrant from College Park and was taken to DeKalb County Jail.

Wed. Aug. 14 – Loitering and Prowling, 300 block of Town Blvd.:  Officers responded to a report of a male wandering the property “jiggling” apartment door handles. Officers searched the area but did not locate the suspect. They later received another call of a male matching the same description sleeping in the parking garage. He was located but could not provide a reasonable explanation for being there. The suspect was taken to the DeKalb County Jail.

Wed. Aug. 14 – Disorderly Conduct, 900 block of Lincoln Court Ave.:  Police responded to a complaint of shots fired at the complainant’s door. The caller stated her neighbor was shooting at her door but officers discovered her neighbor instead setting off firecrackers in front of the complainants door. After a thorough investigation, officers arrested the suspect and transported him to the DeKalb County Jail.

Tues. Aug. 13 – Battery, 2000 block of N. Druid Hills:  Police responded to a male and female arguing in the street. The officers met with the couple and who admitted they were arguing most of the day about ownership of their dog. The male subject had injuries to his right thumb and left forearm that both admitted were inflicted by the female. She was taken into custody and during the search, officers found methamphetamines. She was transported to the DeKalb County Jail.

Mon. Aug. 12 – Commercial Burglary, 3300 block of Buford Hwy.: Police were dispatched to a retail store at the request of the manager. She reported that the alarm was going off when she entered the store. She also discovered an auxiliary side door was unlocked and open.  When she approached the registers, she saw that the safe was opened and some cash was laying on the floor. Officers found no signs of forced entry to the store or to the safe.  The manager reviewed the store’s surveillance video and it showed a subject entering from the side door wearing dark pants, camouflaged jacket with a hood and green gloves.  The subject went directly to the safe that looked unsecured, pulled open the door and started stuffing items into the jacket’s pocket. The subject left via the side door. At this time, it’s undetermined how much money was taken from the safe. The investigation continues.
