The Brookhaven Beat: A glimpse into the work of Brookhaven Police

Brookhaven, GA, March 4, 2019 – During the week of Feb. 25- March 3, police made 107 incident reports, 138 citations and 26 arrests.  This is a sampling of some of those calls:

Sun. March 3 – Obstruction, Loitering and Prowling, 2700 Block of Ashford Rd:  Officers were dispatched on a 911 call to the area of Ashford Road near Thompson Road, regarding two subjects walking down the road in a verbal argument.  Officers approached the subjects and asked for identification. The subjects gave names, and as officers attempted to check them through GCIC the subjects both fled on foot in separate directions.  One subject was immediately apprehended but the other one was able to elude arrest.  However, the suspect who got away dropped bags he was carrying which contained his driver’s license.  The captured suspect was taken to jail, and warrants are issued for the one who got away. 

Sat. March 2 – DUI, 1600 Block of Johnson Ferry Rd:  Officers responded to the area in reference to a driver passed out in a vehicle. While officers were on the way to the location they were advised that the vehicle had already left. Then the officers observed the vehicle traveling straight at them on the wrong side of the road. The driver was determined to the under the influence of inhalants and was taken into custody for a DUI.

Thurs. Feb. 28 – Aggravated Assault, N. Druid Hills Rd/E. Roxboro DrAt approximately 9:30 a.m. officers were dispatched to a report of discharging firearms. Both parties involved were located by officers. The victim advised he and the suspect were involved in a road rage incident. The suspect opened her door and began firing at the victim and all the occupants of the vehicle he was in (three adults and three children total). Both the victim and suspect fled the scene. The victim and suspect were both interviewed by CID and the suspect admitted to shooting at the victim and vehicle. The suspect was charged with multiple counts of Aggravated Assault and was transported to the DeKalb County Jail.

Tues. Feb. 26 – Recovered Stolen Vehicle, 3700 Block of Buford HwyOfficers received a License Plate Reader (LPR) hit for a stolen vehicle at Clairmont Road and Barone Ave. The vehicle was located, and a traffic stop was conducted. The driver and passenger were detained. The vehicle was confirmed stolen and the driver had warrants from multiple agencies that were confirmed. The vehicle was returned to the owner and the suspect was transported to DeKalb County Jail. The passenger was identified and released.

Tues. Feb 26. -  Hit and Run, 3500 Block of Buford Hwy:  Officers attempted a traffic stop for a vehicle who ran a school bus operating flashing red lights, dropping children off. The suspect fled into the nearby apartments and nearly struck a group of children. The suspect exited the vehicle, allowing it to ram into a parked car as he fled on foot. The suspect was not located. Officers were able to contact the owner of the vehicle, who claims it may have been stolen.  The case remains under investigation.

Mon. Feb. 25 – Entering Auto - 3300 Block of Buford Hwy: The complainant stated someone broke into his vehicle while he was performing at Pegasus Lounge. Several items were taken from the vehicle, including two firearms. There are no witnesses nor suspects.
