The Brookhaven Beat: 4/29-5/5/2019

Brookhaven, GA, May 7, 2019 – During the week of April 29-May 5, Brookhaven Police responded to 2,016 calls which included 142 incident reports, 92 citations, and 26 arrests.  This is a sampling of some of those calls:

Sat. May 4 – Dog Attack, 1500 block of W. Nancy CreekOfficers responded to a report of an animal bite at Murphey Candler Park.  During the investigation, it was revealed that a park patron’s dog ran free from its owner while on a leash. The dog then attacked a separate dog and its owner. The second dog’s owner sustained visible injuries. The citizen was cited, and DeKalb Animal Control impounded the dog for a 10-day quarantine.

Fri. May 3 – Burglary/Forced Entry, 3600 block of Buford HwyA resident reported that in the mid to late morning, someone forcefully entered through the front door and removed a flat screen TV, PlayStation 3 & 4, Apple iPhone 6, Samsung Galaxy S6, and jewelry from the residence. Surveillance footage showed two males, possibly high school age, departing the scene with the tv in hand.  The homeowner started cleaning up the residence before the arrival of police; therefore, no fingerprints were obtained.

Tues. April 30 – Criminal Trespass, 2000 block of Curtis Dr:  Police were called regarding a domestic dispute involving roommates. The caller stated that he and his boyfriend were arguing because he was tired of the boyfriend lying around the house and wanted the boyfriend to leave. The boyfriend refused to leave, so the caller threw his personal items out of the window. The boyfriend retaliated by cutting up the caller’s clothing located in the closet. At the end of this investigation, both were arrested for criminal trespass and taken to the DeKalb County Jail.

Tues. April 30 – Missing Person Located, 3800 block of Peachtree Rd:  The daughter of an elderly female called police to report her mother missing. The 68-year-old mother is an insulin-dependent diabetic and has dementia. The daughter arrived to give her insulin and she was missing. Police established an incident command and CID responded to the scene. Officers canvased the area and the mother was found in a parking lot three blocks away.  She was returned home and assessed by medics.   

Mon. April 29 - Stolen Vehicle, 3200 Block of Buford Highway:  Police responded to a License Plate Reader (LPR) hit for a stolen vehicle on Buford Hwy. Police located the vehicle in a parking lot on Buford Hwy. Multiple units responded and a felony stop was conducted. The vehicle was confirmed as stolen, and a quantity of suspected Methamphetamine was also found. The vehicle occupants were arrested without incident.

Mon. April 29 – Shoplifting, 3500 Block of Peachtree Rd: The suspect entered a retail store’s walk-in humidor, took multiple cigars, and fled. Employees followed the suspect to a nearby McDonalds while calling police. Officers caught the suspect and recovered the cigars. The suspect was arrested, charged with shoplifting, and taken to the DeKalb County Jail.
