Rained out movie nights rescheduled throughout September

Sonic the Hedgehog

Brookhaven, GA, Sept. 3, 2020 – The Brookhaven Parks and Recreation Department is determined to beat the elements and give residents the summer movie nights that were promised. Therefore, three of the movies, formerly rained out, are being offered in September.

Whether it’s a movie under the stars viewed from a blanket or lawn chair or while relaxing in a cool pool, guests can choose which format works best for them. In an effort to remain compliant with pandemic safety precautions, safety options will be offered at all events.

First up is Sonic the Hedgehog slated for Friday, Sept. 11 at Lynwood Park’s multipurpose field, 3360 Osborne Road at 8:30 p.m. Moviegoers will watch the film from individually-marked socially-distanced spaces. The world needed a hero -- it got a hedgehog. Powered with incredible speed, Sonic embraces his new home on Earth -- until he accidentally knocks out the power grid, sparking the attention of uncool evil genius Dr. Robotnik. Now, it's supervillain vs. supersonic in an all-out race across the globe to stop Robotnik from using Sonic's unique power to achieve world domination.

On Friday, Sept. 18, the City will open the newly renovated Briarwood Park pool, 2235 Briarwood Way, specifically for a showing of The Addams Family. The pool will open at 7 p.m. and close after the movie. The movie will start around 8:30 p.m. Safety measures will be taken including social distancing, lower capacity, a thorough cleaning and sanitizing and staff will be wearing masks while checking in guests. Members of the mysterious and spooky Addams family -- Gomez, Morticia, Pugsley, Wednesday, Uncle Fester and Grandma -- are readily preparing for a visit from their even creepier relatives. But trouble soon arises when shady TV personality Margaux Needler realizes that the Addams' eerie hilltop mansion is standing in the way of her dream to sell all the houses in the neighborhood.

Finishing out the movie series will be Space Jam on Saturday, Sept. 19 also at Briarwood Park pool, beginning around 8:30 p.m. No pool admission will be charged after 7 p.m. In this movie, Swackhammer (Danny DeVito), an evil alien theme park owner, needs a new attraction at Moron Mountain. When his gang, the Nerdlucks, heads to Earth to kidnap Bugs Bunny (Billy West) and the Looney Tunes, Bugs challenges them to a basketball game to determine their fate. The aliens agree, but they steal the powers of NBA basketball players, including Larry Bird (Larry Bird) and Charles Barkley (Charles Barkley) -- so Bugs gets some help from superstar Michael Jordan (Michael Jordan).

There will be no pool admission charged for the pool movies and capacity will be limited to 40 people. No reservations are required. Admission will be on a first come/first served basis. Concession stands will not be available, so guests may want to bring along their own snacks to enjoy.
