Newly-renovated Briarwood Pool slated to open Sept. 12
First major parks bond construction project
Brookhaven, GA, Sept. 3, 2020 – Labor Day may traditionally mark the end of summer, but not necessarily in Brookhaven. The newly-renovated Briarwood Park pool will make its debut this month just in time for a few final laps before the autumnal equinox. In the first major construction project utilizing a portion of the $40 million Park Bond capital improvement funds, the renovation of the pool, at 2235 Briarwood Way, has been completed and will reopen to the public on Sept. 12 at 10 a.m.
Original plans called for only renovating the Briarwood swim facility, but research showed it would be more cost-effective to build a new pool and pool house instead of updating the existing facility to meet current health codes and standards.
The $3.5 million renovation was done by Waterworks Aqua Design, LLC, based on improvements conceived by Lose Designs and input from residents and local swim teams. The updated recreational facility includes a new zero-entry pool with spray features for play and a portion of the pool has been transitioned into a 75-foot long six-lane competition section that can be used by swim teams that operate out of the park.
A nearby “cool surface” pool deck features a new pavilion, bleachers, and umbrellas for shade and a new 4,000 square-foot pool house contains restrooms, locker rooms, concessions, ticket office and a lifeguard room.
Along with the Murphey Candler pool, the Briarwood pool will be open through September from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. on Saturdays and from 1-6 p.m. on Sundays.
