Brookhaven, GA, Aug. 23, 2018 – One of Brookhaven’s best parks is about to get better.  On Aug. 22, Brookhaven held a ceremonial groundbreaking for the construction of the Blackburn Park Open Space project.

“This is just the latest step along the journey of progress in Brookhaven,” said Mayor John Ernst.  “This year alone, we paved 39 roads, built two miles of sidewalks, finished our five-year inspection of stormwater inlets and ran the street sweepers over 52 curb-miles of road.  So today, we are turning our attention to improvements on Blackburn Park.”

The improvements to the north end of the park include a new restroom near the picnic shelter, a new natural play area, extension of the multi-use trail, irrigation and electric access.

“Blackburn Park is one of Brookhaven’s marquee attractions, and it is already home to The Brookhaven Cherry Blossom Festival, Paint the Park, the Food Trucks, the Easter Egg hunt, the Light Up Brookhaven Christmas tree lighting., and so much more,” said District 1 Councilperson Linley Jones.  “These upgrades we are kicking off today will make Blackburn Park even more accessible and convenient for our residents.”
