Brookhaven’s Front Yard Tree Program sells out

Forty trees to be planted in initial campaign

Brookhaven, GA, Nov. 12, 2019 – Brookhaven’s Front Yard Tree Program was so popular that registration was closed after only 14 days.

“It was our first year, so we started with a 40-tree partnership with Trees Atlanta and thought we could grow from there.  Given the demand this year, we’ll have to increase our capacity next year,” said Parks and Recreation Director Brian Borden.

At its regular business meeting on Oct. 22, the Brookhaven City Council unanimously approved a contract with Trees Atlanta to plant up to 40 trees (the maximum that Trees Atlanta could provide) in the front yards of Brookhaven residents.  Registration opened on October 30 and by November 12 the last tree was reserved.

“We already have plans in the works to expand this program as more trees become available, because we knew there would be a lot of demand,” said Mayor John Ernst. “Shade trees enhance Brookhaven’s tree canopy, which enhances Brookhaven’s quality of life, so it’s no surprise this has been so popular.”
