Mayor John Ernst to host town hall on Thursday, Nov. 21

Brookhaven, GA, Nov. 18, 2019 – The public is invited to join Mayor John Ernst for his monthly town hall meeting on Thursday, Nov. 21, from 6 to 7 p.m. at Brookhaven City Hall, 4362 Peachtree Road.

The meeting will include a discussion with representatives from the Atlanta-Region Transit Link Authority (ATL), the state office which is preparing a regional transit plan for submission to the State of Georgia for consideration in 2020.  The ATL is responsible for transit policy, planning, and funding oversight across the 13-county metro-Atlanta region.  The ATL will develop the 2020 regional transit plan in consultation with the Atlanta Regional Commission and other regional transit providers.

Brookhaven Mayor John Ernst recently addressed the ATL Board making the case for I-285 High Capacity Transit. He notes that now is the time for Brookhaven to come forward and be heard.

Brookhaven residents and stakeholders are encouraged to weigh in on several federally-funded transit projects which affect Brookhaven commuters.  A list of projects and a project map are listed below.

I-285 Top End High Capacity Bus Rapid Transit
Daily Ridership Estimate: 10,000 (DeKalb estimate only)
Cost Estimate: $640,000,000
Overview: Utilizes GDOT Managed Lanes expansion, includes Fulton, Cobb and DeKalb from Cumberland Pkwy to Northlake Pkwy/La Vista Rd, with direct connections to Dunwoody and Doraville MARTA and I-285 East Wall HCT. City of Brookhaven is project sponsor from the Fulton/DeKalb line to the norther end of the East Wall HCT project.

I-285 East Wall High Capacity Bus Rapid Transit
Daily Ridership Estimate: 10,0000
Cost Estimate: $306,000,000
Overview: Utilizes GDOT Managed Lanes expansion, direct connections to Kensington MARTA and I-285 Top End HCT at Northlake Pkwy/ La Vista Rd.

Buford Hwy High Capacity Bus Rapid Transit
Daily Ridership Estimate: 4,500
Cost Estimate: $280,000,000
Overview: Significant upgrade to existing lanes and service, dedicated lanes with direct connections to I-285 Top End Project, Lindbergh and Doraville MARTA and Clifton Corridor light rail.  City of Brookhaven is project sponsor.

Clairmont Road Arterial Rapid Transit

Overview: Chamblee MARTA to Decatur MARTA intersecting Buford Hwy HCT and planned Clifton Corridor light rail.
