Brookhaven Easter Bunny appearances canceled

The City of Brookhaven has canceled the drive-by Easter Bunny appearances originally scheduled for Saturday, April 11.

“Due to a growing concern that the popularity of the Easter Bunny would exceed reasonable expectations of social distancing, we made the difficult decision to cancel the event this year,” said Brookhaven Mayor John Ernst.

The event was intended to spread some Easter joy in light of all of the other City events canceled in March and April.  The Easter Bunny “parade” was to consist only of the Easter Bunny riding in the back of a Brookhaven Police Department pickup truck.  This way, kids of all ages could have spotted Peter Rabbit and Brookhaven Police from their front yards and porches.

Initial public response was so favorable that the route was expanded to include most Brookhaven streets.

“This was supposed to be a small, simple and safe event, but as the popularity increased, we had to make the call out of an abundance of caution and concern,” said Mayor Ernst.
