New website portal tracks boards and commissions

Ready to serve?  Brookhaven makes it easy to self-nominate

Brookhaven, GA, Nov. 26, 2019 – Even for Brookhaven, a municipality with a limited number of government services, there are plenty of opportunities for citizen involvement.  Now, a new portal on Brookhaven’s website makes it easier to see term expirations and vacancies on six boards and commissions, as well as apply to serve on one of these boards.

Currently on the Boards and Commissions page of  the Brookhaven website (located here), there are six boards appointed by the Mayor and City Council:  Art Advisory Committee, Audit Committee, Board of Appeals, Development Authority, Park Bond Oversight Committee, and Planning Commission.  Between these, there are 3 positions currently vacant, and 11 positions in which terms are ending before January 22, 2020.  Anyone interested in serving can self-nominate on any of these webpages that have a current or pending vacancy.

“Brookhaven was founded upon engaged residents who were eager to get involved and be an active participant in governance at the local level,” said Mayor John Ernst.  “With this new website interface, it will be easier for residents to see what’s available and select a role that is right for them to serve.”

The new portal is an extension the City’s commitment to the Sustainable Brookhaven initiative.  Civic governance, one of the five elements the initiative, prioritizes civic engagement, ethical standards, social equity, inclusiveness, and proactive community leadership development.
