City Council wrap up from the Oct. 22 meeting

Brookhaven, GA, Oct. 22, 2019 – The Brookhaven City Council acted on several items in its Oct. 22 regular business meeting at Brookhaven City Hall:

  • The Council commended the significant contributions of 911 dispatchers with the Chattahoochee River Valley 911 Authority, (Chatcomm911) and the Brookhaven Police Department's "Bravo" night-patrol shift in response to a text message alerting police to a hostage situation.
  • The Council recognized and commended Major Linda Burke and Sergeant David Snively for the re-accreditation of Brookhaven Police Department from Oct. 1, 2019 – Sept. 30, 2022.
  • The Council commended issued a proclamation to Oglethorpe University recognizing October as Arts and Humanities Month.
  • The Council held a public hearing and subsequently approved a rezoning from C-1 to C-2 at 3253 Buford Highway to maintain the existing shopping center.
     
  • The Council unanimously approved the holiday schedule and normal business hours for City operations for calendar year 2020.
  • The Council unanimously approved a 5-year renewal option for RAVE Mobile Safety (Brookhaven Alert) beginning in 2020 at an annual cost of $9,500.
  • The Council unanimously approved a change order #10 to the Lewallen construction contract for the Peachtree Creek Greenway (PCG) Phase 1 to improve the trail experience via an enhanced tree canopy, and creation of an overall visually appealing trail appearance at a cost of $165,378.  This planting plan includes 147 trees, 56 shrubs, and 430 square yards of river rock.
  • The City Manager presented the proposed 2020 budget to the City Council maintaining the same millage rate since 2015.  There will be a public hearing at the regular meetings of Nov. 12 and 26.  Council will consider vote following the public hearing on Nov. 26.
  • The Council unanimously approved changes to Chapter 14, Land Development & Subdivisions, Section 14677, Sidewalks and Bicycle Lanes.  These updates relate to implementation of the City’s sidewalk program, providing language that changes the Future Sidewalk/Trail/Path map to the Future Sidewalk List.
  • The Council unanimously approved a contract with Trees Atlanta in the amount of $9,000 to provide support for the Brookhaven's Front Yard Tree Program.
