City Council wrap-up for the May 4 virtual meeting

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Brookhaven, GA, May 5, 2021 – The Brookhaven City Council acted on several items in its May 4 business meeting, held via video conference, with public input offered through email and by online comments on Zoom.  The action items are as follows:

  • The Mayor and Council heard a presentation regarding the progress of the Social Justice, Race and Equity Commission.
  • The Mayor and Council unanimously approved a consent agenda which included:
    • The minutes of the April 27 virtual Work Session and Regular Meetings.
  • The Mayor and Council unanimously approved an ordinance to amend the charter of the City of Brookhaven for the purpose of reapportionment. Of the various district maps considered, option #7 was the version approved.
  • The Mayor and Council unanimously approved an ordinance to amend the 2021 General Fund Budget to appropriate $130,000 in funding for the Cherry Blossom Summer Block Party.
  • The Mayor and Council unanimously approved an ordinance extending the State of Emergency arising because of COVID-19 through June 18.
  • The Council unanimously approved an ordinance to amend the 2021 General Fund Budget to appropriate $1,350,000 for the lease of Real Property at 382 Dresden Drive.
  • The Council unanimously approved an Intergovernmental Agreement between the City of Brookhaven and the Brookhaven Facilities Authority for the purchase of real property for a public purpose at 1382 Dresden Drive.
  • The Council unanimously approved a building permit extension request for Clutch Sports Bar LLC at 1860 Corporate Blvd.
  • The Council unanimously approved a purchase order to Response Environmental Site Services, Inc. (RESS) for emergency drainage system and sinkhole repairs at 2391 Cortez Way.
  • The Mayor and Council unanimously approved a proclamation recognizing the week of May 3- May 10, 2021 as International Municipal Clerks Week and commend the ongoing efforts of Municipal Clerk Susan Hiott, Deputy Clerk Sandra Bryant and Administrative Assistant Cheryl George.
