City Council wrap-up for the June 29 virtual meeting

Brookhaven, GA, June 29, 2021 – The Brookhaven City Council acted on several items in its June 29 business meeting, held via video conference, with public input offered through email and by online comments on Zoom.  The action items are as follows:

  • Following three public presentations and public hearings, the Mayor Pro Tempore and Council unanimously approved of the 2021 millage rate.  General Maintenance and Operations was set at 2.74 mills, General Obligation Bonds was set at 0.57 mills, Special Tax District #1 was set at 6.45 mills and the LaVista Park Special Tax District at 3.5 mills.
  • The Mayor Pro Tempore and Council unanimously approved a resolution that appoints members to the Brookhaven Arts and Cultural Commission.
  • The Mayor and Council unanimously approved a consent agenda which included:
    • The minutes of the June 15 virtual Work Session and Regular Meeting.
    • An Intergovernmental Agreement with the Brookhaven Public Facilities Authority.  
    • Acceptance of easements from DeKalb County for Brookhaven Park.
    • A resolution to amend the Mayor and Council meeting schedule for remainder of the year.
    • Mutual general releases and settlement agreements between the City of Brookhaven, Jeffrey Long, and Lose & Associates
    • An agreement with William Morris Agency for the Cherry Blossom Summer Block Party
  • The Council unanimously approved an ordinance to amend the 2021 General Fund and CIP Fund Budget, appropriating an amount not to exceed $185,150 from the General Fund Unassigned Fund Balance and $200,000 from the CIP Fund Contributions from private sources to the CIP Fund Infrastructure Expenditures Account for the completion of the Northeast Expressway Multiuse Path Project.  The Council subsequently approved a purchase order to Excellere Construction, LLC in the amount of $504,390 for ITB 21-105, the N.E. Expressway Frontage Road Multiuse Path Project.
  • The Council unanimously approved an ordinance to amend Chapter 14, Land Development and Subdivisions, Article III, Tree Preservation and Maintenance.
  • The Council unanimously approved an ordinance to amend Section 16-193, Vegetation & Debris, to define and prohibit the spread of invasive vegetation between properties.
  • The Council unanimously approved an ordinance to amend Chapter 24-140 through 24-151, to comply with HB 317, as it pertains to short term rentals.
  • The Council unanimously approved an ordinance to amend the 2021 General Fund Budget, appropriating the amounts shown in each budget as expenditures, and adopting the item of anticipated funding sources.
  • The Council unanimously approved an ordinance to approve the amended authorized position list.
  • The Council unanimously approved an intergovernmental agreement with Explore Brookhaven for Cherry Blossom Summer Block Party.
