City Council wrap-up of the July 28 virtual meeting

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Brookhaven, GA, July 29, 2020 – The Brookhaven City Council acted on several items in its July 28 business meeting, held via video conference, with public input offered through email and by online comments on Zoom.  The action items are as follows:

  • The Council unanimously approved a consent agenda which included:
    • The minutes of the June 23 virtual meeting.
    • Encroachment agreements between the City of Brookhaven and the gas pipeline companies of Colonial Pipeline and Kinder Morgan Pipeline for construction of the Murphey Candler Park II Trail.
    • A resolution to authorize the City Attorney to take action to secure, in fee simple, real property located at portion of tracts at 2568 Peachtree Road.
    • A resolution to authorize the City Attorney to take action to secure, in fee simple, real property located at portion of tracts at 3070 Ashford Dunwoody Road.
    • A resolution calling a special election on a referendum for the City of Brookhaven as required by HB 695 passed by the Georgia General Assembly on June 30, 2020, regarding term limits.

 

  • The Council unanimously approved a resolution of the City of Brookhaven affirming its commitment to the Brookhaven Police Department and remaining at the forefront of the police reform movement.
  • The Council unanimously approved a resolution expressing support for the One Million Trees Initiative, a Collaborative Effort to Preserve Brookhaven’s Tree Canopy.
  • The Council unanimously approved an ordinance extending the declaration of a state of emergency arising because of COVID-19.
  • The Council unanimously approved an ordinance to amend the Stormwater Fund Budget appropriating an amount not to exceed $345,000 from the Stormwater Fund Reserves for the purchase of property located at 2345 Ewing Drive.
  • The Council unanimously approved a resolution of the City Council to approve the acquisition of real property at 2345 Ewing Drive.
  • The Council unanimously approved an ordinance to amend the Capital Improvement Programs (CIP) Fund and Stormwater Fund Budgets - recognizing the closing of CIP and Stormwater Projects, approving of transfers of residual appropriations to alternate funding uses and original funding source, and other measures.
  • The Council unanimously approved an ordinance to establish three new projects and Special Tax District Fund and Capital Improvement Fund; appropriating an amount not to exceed $190,000 from the Special Tax District Fund Balance to Capital Improvement Fund expenditure account, and other measures.
  • The Council unanimously approved an ordinance to amend the LaVista Park Special Tax District Fund Budget; appropriating an increase of $100,000 for expenditures needed for infrastructure, according to the City of Brookhaven Annexation Policy, recognizing increase in ad valorem revenue in the amount of $100,000 based on FY 2020 Tax Digest, allowing for the General Fund to provide an advance to the LaVista Park Special Tax District Fund until such time that tax revenues are received, and other measures.
  • The Council unanimously approved an agreement with Kompan, Inc., in the amount of $305,315.99 for the Murphey Candler Park Natural Play Area.
  • The Council unanimously approved an agreement with Integrated Construction and Nobility, Inc., in the amount of $849,384.94 for the Ashford Park Splashpad Project.
