City Council wrap up: Highlights from the Oct. 9 meeting

Brookhaven, GA, Oct. 9, 2018 – The Brookhaven City Council acted on several items in its Oct. 9 meeting at Brookhaven City Hall: 

  • The Council unanimously approved a proclamation to establish October 2018 as Brookhaven Arts and Humanities Month. 
     
  • The Council unanimously approved the 2019 GDOT Local Maintenance and Improvement Grant application in the amount of $420,185.86, which requires a 30% local match.
     
  • The Council unanimously approved a contract with Southern Hydro Vac for on-call jetting for stormwater maintenance.
  • ​The Council unanimously approved a resolution authorizing the abandonment of all remaining right of way adjacent to Tullie Road and Tullie Circle, authorizing the sale of the right of way to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, Inc.
     
  • ​The City Manager presented a proposed budget for 2019 to the Mayor and City Council in the amount of $47,568,301 with a focus on implementing the plans and projects which have been previously approved.  The general fund budget, which funds the day-to-day operations of the City of Brookhaven, totals $27.7 million, a 1.55 percent increase from the 2018 revised budget.
     
  • ​The Council unanimously approved an ordinance to establish permit requirements for special events. 
     
  • The Council unanimously tabled an ordinance to establish permit requirements for film production until their next meeting on Oct. 23.
     
  • The Council received an update on the 5-year Comprehensive Plan.
     
  • The Council unanimously approved Acceptance of a GDOT Agreement for Peachtree Creek Greenway (PCG) - Phase II – committing federal funding to the project, extending from North Druid Hills Road to the Atlanta City Limits, and ultimately linking the PCG with PATH 400, South Fork Conservancy Trail, and the Atlanta Beltline.
     
  • The Council unanimously approved a resolution to authorize the City attorney to take action to secure real estate in Brookhaven for public purposes and/or roadways as authorized under Georgia law.
     
  • The Council unanimously approved the application to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources for $350,000 in funding toward an estimated $700,000 North Fork Peachtree Creek streambank restoration project to restore the environment and protect water quality.
