City Council wrap up: Highlights from the Nov. 26 meeting

Brookhaven, GA, Nov. 26, 2019 – The Brookhaven City Council acted on several items in its Nov. 26 regular business meeting at Brookhaven City Hall:

  • The City Council held the final public hearing on the proposed 2020 budget which maintains the same millage rate since 2015. Following that public hearing, Council unanimously approved the 2020 Budget.
  • The Council held a public hearing and subsequently approved a rezoning of up to 60 acres for Emory Executive Park from OCR, OI, and C-1 to OCR.  This includes 1.8 million square feet of Office Medical Use, 60,000 square feet of commercial, 718 multi-family units of residential, a 200-room hotel, and a 140-bed hospital. Following that, Council also approved a Community Investment Agreement with Emory for a long-term strategic partnership.
  • The Council held a public hearing and subsequently approved a rezoning from RS75 to RS60 at 1515 Grant Drive to allow for a two-lot subdivision.
  • The Council held a public hearing and subsequently deferred a rezoning from RS50 to RS50 at 1169 Dorby Park Drive to allow for a two-lot subdivision.
     
  • The Council unanimously approved text amendments to Chapter 27 of the Zoning ordinance to implement, as called for in a routine audit recommended by the Zoning Ordinance Rewrite, adopted in November 2018.
  • The Council unanimously approved the Brookhaven Convention and Visitors Bureau FY2020 Budget.
  • The Council unanimously approved the Board of Appeals 2020 Process and Meeting Calendar, and the 2020 Land Use Process and Meeting Calendar.
  • The Council unanimously approved five settlement agreements with subcontractors of a general contractor engaged in litigation with the City. These agreements ensure the subcontractors are paid the funds that are due, allowing the City to focus on pending litigation with the general contractor.
  • The Council unanimously approved a contract in the amount of $108,205 with Georgia Power for lighting the Briarwood Road multiuse path.
  • The Council unanimously approved a change to the ordinance in Chapter 7, Buildings & Construction, related to clarifications to the building permit extension process.
  • The Council unanimously approved a change to the ordinance in Chapter 14, Land Development and Subdivisions, related to land disturbance permit extensions
     
  • The Council unanimously approved the Clairmont Road Special Area Plan.
  • The Council unanimously approved a resolution urging DeKalb County and the General Assembly to pass limited changes to the DeKalb ethics ordinance.
  • The Council unanimously approved a construction agreement with the Georgia Department of Transportation for Ashford Dunwoody Road and Dresden Drive improvements.
