City Council wrap up: Highlights from the Nov. 12 meeting

Brookhaven, GA, Nov. 12, 2019 – The Brookhaven City Council acted on several items in its Nov. 12 regular business meeting at Brookhaven City Hall:

  • The City Council held the first public hearing on the proposed 2020 budget which maintains the same millage rate since 2015.  There will be a second public hearing at the regular meetings on Nov. 26.  Council will take official action on the proposed 2020 budget following that public hearing.
  • The Council unanimously approved the regular City Council meeting schedule for calendar year 2020.
  • The Council unanimously approved a one-year contract renewal for Charles Abbot and Associates for permitting, code enforcement and certified city arborist for $1,757,556.
  • The Council unanimously approved an intergovernmental agreement with DeKalb County for the distribution of equalized homestead (EHOST) proceeds.
  • The Council unanimously approved an amendment to Chapter 7, Buildings & Construction, of the City code related to newly adopted state codes.
  • The Council unanimously authorized the administration to proceed with the acquisition of property located at 1174 Pine Grove, to be utilized as a park within walking distance of Brookhaven Heights. DeKalb County is contributing $400,000 toward this effort to establish this much-needed greenspace.
  • The Council unanimously approved a contract with Freese & Nichols for the North Fork Nancy Creek streambank restoration for design in the amount of $160,000.
  • The Council unanimously approved a contract amendment in the amount of $244,776 for Optech RWM, LLC for the addition of three full-time staff for additional right of way and Peachtree Creek Greenway maintenance.
