City Council wrap up: Highlights from the March 26 meeting

Brookhaven, GA, March 26, 2019 – The Brookhaven City Council acted on several items in its March 26 meeting at Brookhaven City Hall: 

  • The Council was advised of the results of the nationwide search for a new Deputy Police Chief.  Out of a short list of four candidates vetted by a citizen panel, Brandon Gurley was promoted into the position in an official pinning ceremony at the beginning of the Council meeting.
  • The Council unanimously approved an amendment to the City Manager contract, increasing the compensation 3 percent and extending the term to remain in force until termination.
  • The Council unanimously approved a contract with Quicket Solutions to provide Municipal Court software for the City of Brookhaven for a one-time fee of $61,600 and $3,000 monthly maintenance fees.
  • The Council unanimously approved a contract with CPL Architecture Engineering Planning to provide on-call building design & plan review services.
  • The Council unanimously approved a change to Chapter 5 (Animals) of the City Code to define and set requirements regarding the keeping of pot-bellied pigs.
  • The Council approved a change to Chapter 17, (Motor Vehicles & Traffic) of the City Code to define and set requirements for dockless mobility devices.
  • The Council deferred on a proposed change to Chapter 15, (Licenses, Permits, and Business Regulations) of the City Code, to ensure protections to tenants of rental housing developments located within the City.
  • The Council unanimously approved a contract with Cline Services Corp. for the installation of the marquee fence at Blackburn Park in the amount of $255,000.
  • The Council unanimously approved a change to the pay structure for upper management of the police department.  This follows the approval of pay increases for officers, sergeants and lieutenants on Jan. 22, 2019.
