City Council wrap up: Highlights from the March 12 meeting

Brookhaven, GA, March 12, 2019 – The Brookhaven City Council acted on several items in its March 12 meeting at Brookhaven City Hall: 

  • The Council appointed William Linkous of Freeman Mathis & Gary as the Alcohol Code Hearing Officer.   

 

  • The Council unanimously approved contracts with DAF Concrete Inc. for the E. Drew Valley Road sidewalk in the amount of $34,000, and for the Cheshire Way sidewalk in the amount of $38,000.
  • The Council unanimously approved a change order for Lewallen for bridge railing and lighting for the Peachtree Creek Greenway (PCG) in the amount of $326,717.57.
  • The Council unanimously approved an agreement with Atlanta Gas Light to relocate an unmarked gas line in the PCG construction area in the amount of $83,038.29.
  • The Council unanimously approved a change order with Chattahoochee Consulting for enhanced soil field testing services in the PCG construction area for an increase of $50,000.
  • The Council unanimously approved a purchase agreement with Railroad Outdoor for the purchase of the billboard located near the intersection of Buford Highway and North Druid Hills Road in the amount of $375,000, per the letter of intent authorized in the Feb. 12 City Council meeting.
  • The Council unanimously approved a contract with Freese & Nichols for N. Fork Nancy Creek Stream Bank Restoration for Design in the Amount of $90,000.00.  This includes the segment of North Fork Nancy Creek downstream of Murphey Candler Dam to the confluence with Nancy Creek. The project includes restoration of 800 linear feet of impacted stream channel upstream of the confluence with Nancy Creek.
  • The Council tabled changes to Brookhaven Convention and Visitors Bureau bylaws proposed by the Board of Trustees.
  • The Council unanimously approved to accept the easement agreement with Villas of Druid Hills for the PCG.
  • The Council unanimously approved an ordinance to amend Chapter 14, Land Development and Subdivisions, of the code of the City of Brookhaven to update the Floodplain Management section as required by FEMA. 
  • The Council unanimously approved a resolution introduced by Mayor John Ernst for property tax relief for homesteaded property owners, seniors, and the disabled.  The resolution will be forwarded to the General Assembly for consideration.
