City Council wrap up: Highlights from the July 23 meeting

Brookhaven, GA, July 23, 2019 – The Brookhaven City Council acted on several items in its July 23 meeting at Brookhaven City Hall:

  • A rezoning request to allow a two-lot subdivision at 1169 Dorby Drive was withdrawn.
  • The Council held a public hearing and subsequently approved a rezoning request to allow a two-lot subdivision at 1301 Sylvan Circle. 
  • The Council held a public hearing and subsequently approved a major modification to allow a 35-foot landscape buffer instead of a 50-foot buffer for the construction of a deck at 1016 Fairway Estates.
  • The Council held a public hearing and subsequently approved a rezoning request to allow a two-lot subdivision at 3225 Osborne Road.
  • The Council held a public hearing and subsequently approved a text amendment to Chapter 27 of the Zoning Code to allow for a maximum of eight stories of residential housing within the Buford Highway overlay south of I-85.
  • The Council held a public hearing and subsequently approved a change to Chapter 27 of the Zoning Code to allow for electric vehicle charging stations in new parking garages and parking lots.
  • The Council held a public hearing and subsequently approved a change to Chapter 27 of the Zoning Code to allow for a permit fee for short term rentals.
  • The Council unanimously approved the appointment of Jeff Carlson to the board of the Brookhaven Convention and Visitors Bureau.
  • The Council unanimously approved an amendment to the intergovernmental agreement between the City of Brookhaven and the Chattahoochie River 911 Authority (ChatComm) to update the annual cost structure and extend the agreement to Sept. 1, 2024.
  • The Council held a public comment and subsequently approved a change to Chapter 14 of the Land Development and Subdivisions Code to reference the Comprehensive Plan and ensure the suitable division of lots.
  • The Council held a public comment and subsequently approved a change to Chapter 14 of the Land Development and Subdivisions Code to provide language to allow administrative variances from sidewalk installation requirements.
  • The Council unanimously approved a donation and approval of site improvements to Lynwood Park and facilities from the Atlanta Hawks Foundation, Inc., and State Farm.
  • The Council unanimously approved a resolution concerning an agreement with the process for the DeKalb Transit Master Plan.
     
  • The Council unanimously approved a bid award to New Image Roofing in the amount of $213,960 for the installation of a new standing seam metal roof on the Lynwood Park Recreation Center.
  • The Council unanimously approved a reduction in permit fees for short term rentals to $25 per year or $50 for three years.
