City Council wrap up: Highlights from the Jan. 28 meeting

Brookhaven, GA, Jan. 28, 2020 – The Brookhaven City Council acted on several items in its Jan. 28 regular business meeting at Brookhaven City Hall:

  • The Mayor and City Council recognized Ed McBrayer and the Path Foundation for their contribution to the City of Brookhaven and the greater metropolitan area for their work on the Peachtree Creek Greenway, and congratulated Ed McBrayer personally for his leadership and his commitment to the Atlanta region, noting the impact the PATH Foundation has had on building a trail network extending hundreds of miles, connecting communities for many years to come.
  • The Council held a public hearing and unanimously approved a rezoning at 1221 Kendrick Road from RS-100 to RS-50 to allow for a 2-lot subdivision.
  • The Council unanimously authorized the City Manager to approve agreements for the 2020 Cherry Blossom Festival.
  • The Council unanimously approved amending the General Fund Budget to take into account changes in revenue and expenses from the Brookhaven Development Authority.
  • The Council unanimously approved the addition of six police officers, four of which will be dedicated to the LaVista Park annexation and the addition of a Tree Canopy Preservation Program Manager.
  • The Council unanimously approved a change not to exceed $182,000 from the Stormwater Fund for the construction services related to the Murphey Candler Shoreline Restoration Project, then subsequently approved a contract with Integrated Construction and Nobility Inc. for $181,591 for the installation of 963 linear feet of shoreline walls at Murphey Candler Lake.
  • The Council unanimously approved a change in an amount not to exceed $180,000 from the Stormwater Fund for the Purchase of Construction Services related to the North Fork Nancy Creek Trash Rack Project, then subsequently approved a contract in the amount of $133,335 with Stormwater Systems to install a litter trap north of Murphey Candler Lake.
     
  • The Council reviewed a resolution to affirm and amend the Lynwood Park Master Plan. 
  • The Council heard a request for a right-of-way abandonment between 2647 and 2643 Caldwell Road.
