City Council wrap up: Highlights from the April 23 meeting

Brookhaven, GA, April 23, 2019 – The Brookhaven City Council acted on several items in its April 23 meeting at Brookhaven City Hall: 

  • A rezoning request for four parcels on Lenox Park Blvd which would allow 4+ multi-unit senior living facility and a variance to waive the workforce housing component was withdrawn and will not move forward.
     
  • A rezoning request for three parcels from RS-75 to RSA-18 to allow a 12-unit townhome development on Camille Drive and Dresden Drive was withdrawn and will not move forward.
     
  • The Council held a public hearing on the rezoning of 2469 Oostanaula Drive from RS-75 to R-50 to allow for a 2-unit subdivision.  After the public hearing the Council unanimously approved the rezoning. 
     
  • The Council held a public hearing on a major modification to an existing requirement to install a sidewalk at 1634 Afton Lane and reduce the width of the landscape strip from 5 feet to 1 foot.  After the public hearing the Council deferred a decision until May 14.
     
  • The Council held a public hearing on updating its Zoning Code to allow short-term rentals in areas it was previously prohibited and subsequently passed the updated ordinance.
     
  • The Council held public comment and subsequently approved the North Druid Hills Corridor Study.
     
  • The Council held public comment and voted affirmatively on the first read to accept the changes to the City Charter as recommended by the Charter Review Commission.  The measure must be approved again at the May 14 meeting in order to take effect.
     
  • The Council unanimously approved $50,000 for environmental and engineering services for the Peachtree Road LCI Project.
     
  • The Council unanimously approved $1.23 million for acquisition costs of parcels needed to begin the Osborne Road/Windsor Parkway roundabout. 
     
  • The Council held public comment regarding an ordinance which would entirely delete Chapter 23 of the Code of Ordinances and replacing it with a new Article VII to provide for the acceptance of applications and permits for small cell facilities in the City’s rights of way. The City Council voted to defer this action until its May 28 meeting.
     
  • The Council unanimously approved a resolution in recognition of Georgia Cities Week. 
     
  • The Council approved a 1.5 acre real estate acquisition at 2751 Buford Highway for the purpose of providing space to build a flyover bridge over the interstate.
