City Council virtual meeting on Aug. 24

Brookhaven, GA, Aug. 24, 2021 – The Brookhaven City Council will conduct its next regularly scheduled business meeting today, Aug. 24, at 7 p.m. In consideration of social distancing recommendations, the meeting will be held via video conference.

In order to ensure transparency and accountability, the public will be able to weigh in during Public Hearings and Public Comment by any of the following options:

The Aug. 24 business meeting contains the following for City Council consideration:

  • A resolution appointing Tywana Minor as Chair of the Social Justice, Race and Equity Commission.
  • A resolution reappointing Nancy Plesnarski and appointing Chris Alto, Juan McGruder and Mike Sakowitz to the Brookhaven Convention and Visitors Bureau (Explore Brookhaven).
  • A public comment availability.
  • A consent agenda which includes:
    • The minutes of the July 27 virtual Work Session and Regular Meeting.
    • Consideration and approval of assignment of claims.  
    • An intergovernmental agreement between DeKalb County and the City of Brookhaven for contributions to the Top End I-285 Trails Master Plan.
       
  • An ordinance to amend the 2021 General Fund Budget, appropriating $130,000 from the General Fund Unassigned Fund Balance to the General Fund Non-Departmental Professional Services Account for the purchase of Phase III of the I-285 Top End Transit Study.
     
  • An increase of the purchase order to Response Environmental Site Services, Inc. (RESS) from $575,000 to $610,000 for emergency drainage system and sinkhole repairs at 1167 and 1177 W. Nancy Creek Dr.
     
  • Authorization to enter into an acceptable agreement with Integrated Construction and Nobility for the construction of the Community Green at Murphey Candler Park in the amount of $391,679.
  • An ordinance to amend the Code related to hunting in Parks, the possession and discharge of weapons (As Defined in Section 19-28(A) in City parks and on City property.
  • A resolution affirming and amending the Murphey Candler Park Community Green Project as part of the Murphey Candler Park Master Plan.
  • An ordinance to Amend the FY 2020 Paving Capital Project's Budget and FY18 Ashford Dunwoody/Peachtree Intersection Projects Budget for the Fiscal Year Beginning January 1, 2021 and Ending December 31, 2021 for the City of Brookhaven Pursuant to Charter, Appropriating $89,936.52 from the FY2020 Paving Capital Project to the FY18 Ashford Dunwoody/Peachtree Intersection Projects for the Relocation of Power Poles at the Ford Dunwoody/Peachtree Intersection (MT-01) Project and the Lighting Service Agreement with GA Power
  • A change order to Allied Paving for the resurfacing of Blair Circle West of Donaldson Dr. and the parking lot adjacent to Blair Circle in Blackburn Park.
  • An agreement with Georgia Power for the relocation of power poles at the intersection of Ashford Dunwoody and Peachtree Road for Project MT-01.
  • A lighting service agreement with Georgia Power for Ashford Dunwoody / Peachtree Road intersection improvements
  • An ordinance extending the Declaration of a State of Emergency Arising Because of COVID-19 and taking immediate emergency measures.
