Brookhaven partners with Trees Atlanta on Front Yard Tree Program

Registration open now, up to forty trees to be planted in initial campaign

Brookhaven, GA, Oct. 23, 2019 – At its regular business meeting on Oct. 22, the Brookhaven City Council unanimously approved a contract with Trees Atlanta in the amount of $9,000 to provide support for the Brookhaven's new Front Yard Tree Program.

In this partnership, Trees Atlanta will plant up to 40 trees in the front yards of Brookhaven residents on a first-come, first served basis.  Homeowners will receive either a White, Nuttall, Willow, Shumard, or Overcup oak tree, between six and eight feet in height.  Trees Atlanta will plant the tree and provide the initial mulching and watering and include a two-year replacement guarantee.

“Shade trees enhance Brookhaven’s tree canopy, which in turn enhances Brookhaven’s quality of life,” said Mayor John Ernst.  “We have an additional allocation in the proposed 2020 budget, because I believe there will be a lot of residents who will want to take advantage of this program, once word gets out.”

Beginning Oct. 30, residents can apply at www.treesatlanta.org/yardtree and select “Brookhaven.”  A one-time $25 application fee is required.  After the application is completed online, a representative from Trees Atlanta will contact the homeowner to discuss the appropriate species and location of the tree.  The actual planting of the trees will likely take place in February at the beginning of the tree planting season.
