Clean-Up Day slated for Sept. 14

Brookhaven, GA, Aug. 12, 2019 - Phase 1 of the Peachtree Creek Greenway (PCG) is nearing completion and an upcoming volunteer event will offer residents an opportunity to leave an impact on this newest Brookhaven landmark. As a component of the Cowart Family YMCA’s “Days of Service” program, a volunteer clean-up day, on Saturday, Sept. 14 from 8:30 a.m. to noon, will be held on the stretch of trailway between Briarwood and North Druid Hills.

Volunteers of all ages are invited to participate in cleaning up creek banks and debris out of the shallow Peachtree Creek that ambles alongside the mile-long first phase of Brookhaven’s portion of the paved trail. The YMCA will not only provide all the supplies necessary including waders, gloves, trash bags, etc., but also water and snacks for the volunteers.

“Public ventures such as this always depend on civic partnerships and it’s a great opportunity for residents who want to help make a difference in our community,” says Brookhaven Mayor John Ernst. “Not only will the Greenway have an important impact on the City, but across Atlanta as well. As we build the PCG, we will be working with five adjacent cities to not only complete the project but to help clean the entire 12 miles of trailway and nearby waterways.”

The Cowart Family YMCA, in partnership with the City of Brookhaven, is also being assisted on the clean-up day project by Keep DeKalb Beautiful and Park Pride volunteers.

Complete details on the Sept. 14 event and a registration form is available at  http://ow.ly/IdOu30pjXSO. Under “Select volunteer events” choose Peachtree Creek Cleanup. All participants are required to register. In case of rain, alternative clean-up dates will be announced.
